Why I wrote this book

About half of all men over 50 experience some form of erectile dysfunction. More and more young adult men are reporting problems with erectile function. Prostate cancer is among the top three forms of cancer worldwide, and most men treated for prostate cancer have problems with erectile function for months, years or forever after treatment.

Both penis owners and the medical system tend to place overwhelming focus on “fix this dick.” The medical model is all about restoration and cure. Most men, including this author, start off simply wanting to get their erections to be hard and reliable again.

Half of all men over 50 experience ED

The truth is that erectile function varies over time for everybody. It declines permanently for many men, for a variety of reasons including age and issues like prostate cancer treatment. Even when restoration of erectile function does occur it can take months or years and sometimes still be incomplete.

As one younger man said to me, “it is not about if I ever get reduced erectile function, but rather when.”

The options for men and their sexual partners are to search for a “dick fix” or adapt to the temporary or permanent state of erectile difference. For those who choose or are compelled by necessity to adapt to new bodies, this book is an invitation to be enthusiastic about it, or at least make a virtue of necessity.

This book offers men and their partners the opportunity to find new joy after the devastation of losing such a primal part of a male body as an erection. It encourages a spirit of playful adventure, and it goes into explicit detail because so many men and their partners have asked for this.

The language used is down to earth, because sexual matters are in their nature earthy. The intention is to inform, not to titillate. But we don’t shy away from fact that we are talking about sexual pleasure.

In no way does this book purport or intend to supplant the care, diagnosis and professional advice of doctors and other relevant health care professionals. This book is intended to be read in conjunction with professional medical advice, and extends possibilities for improved quality of life in areas not currently fully covered by solid evidence-based medical research.
